Nuevas estructuras arqueológicas documentadas en el yacimiento de Puente Melchor, Puerto Real, Cádiz

The documentation of new structures has proved to shed light on the knowledge of this important Roman archaeological site and has provided interesting data for its study and contextualization. The origins of the settlement phase are dated around first century B.C. In this case, the documented stratigraphy shows, however, that the occupation took place as of the first century A.C., as proved by the ceramics deposit that appeared next to the building of the structure of a large cistern and pipes associated thereto. The presence of the Via Augusta passing through Puente Melchor and the presence of 32 burials of various types are documented and dated from the High Roman Empire period. Under the decline of the Roman Empire period, the cistern was amortized by the construction of baths, which underwent different refurbishments.La documentación de nuevas estructuras ha resultado ser reveladora en el conocimiento de este importante yacimiento romano, aportando interesantes aspectos para su estudio y contextualización. Los orígenes del poblamiento se sitúan en torno al siglo I a.C.; sin embargo, en la presente actuación, la estratigrafía documentada evidencia una ocupación a partir del siglo I d.C., como se desprende de los depósitos cerámicos que aparecen junto a la construcción de la estructura de una gran cisterna y a las canalizaciones asociadas a ella. De época alto imperial documentamos la presencia de la Vía Augusta a su paso por Puente Melchor y la presencia de 32 enterramientos de diversas tipologías.
