In spite of the fast increase in the number of convenience stores (and super and hipermarkets) in Colima, Mexico; they are still representing a small proportion regarding the number of established traditional corner stores. Furthermore, convenience stores are reshaping consumer purchasing behavior. This paper defines which socio-demographic factors and consumer preferences and perceptions, as well as which service selling traits influence consumer`s preferences on convenience vs corner stores. Based in a sample of 582 buyers, this paper states that convenience stores are perceived as more expensive than corner stores. Proximity to a store increases preferences on corner stores.
