Reexaminando la hipótesis de convergencia a la economía líder regional en México: un análisis de cointegración en panel

In this study the hypothesis of regional convergence in Mexico with three definitions of leading economy, National, Distrito Federal and the United States, is reviewed through several methods of integration and panel cointegration for the period 1970-2012. The results of the panel unit root tests show evidence of convergence of gdp per capita of the states of Mexico with regard to the Distrito Federal and the United States in the sub-period 1970-1985, and not with regard to the national average, which is more evident for the period 1985-2012. Paradoxically to the results of the unrestricted version, we found evidence of convergence in the restricted version of the test through the estimate mean group (mg) in the second period compared to the national average and the United States. Los resultados de las pruebas de raíces unitarias en panel muestran evidencia de convergencia del pib per cápita de los estados de la República Mexicana respecto al Distrito Federal y a Estados Unidos en el subperiodo 1970-1985, y no sobre la media nacional, lo cual es más evidente para el periodo 1985-2012. Paradójicamente a los resultados de la versión irrestricta, encontramos evidencia de convergencia en la versión restricta de la prueba a través del estimador media del grupo (mg) en el segundo periodo relacionado con el promedio nacional y con Estados Unidos. En cuanto al Distrito Federal, en el primer periodo la evidencia fue muy endeble ya que no fue soportada por la prueba de Hausman
