In 1550 the artist and historian Giorgio Vasari published in Florence the first edition of The Lives, book that compiles the history of the rebirth of the Florentine art from the XIII to the XVI centuries; historiographical program based in the idea of the art progress after his “death” during the medieval period. However, the ideas expressed by Vasari are not original, as they respond to a series of established views on the art made by the first humanists from the XIV century in their writings.
