Mirmecofilia ha sido documentada para epifitas, y mirmecotrofia ocurre especialmente en aquellas con desarrollo de domacios. Se reporta el caso de Polytaenium cajenense con domacio �externo� y su uso por la misma hormiga simbionte que su hospedero Cordia nodosa.
