This paper provides an insight into the life of Basilio Villarino, a Borbonic marine who lived at the end of Eighteenth century. This work focuses on Villarino’s studies at the Navy, his knowledge in «useful sciences»; i.e. natural science, his intervention during different expeditions to the Patagonic seaside between 1779 and 1785, and the information he wrote in his travel journals. Villarino’s contributions to Borbonic expedition policies in the second half of the Eighteenth century are analysed by examining these topics.
