This article analyzes the political-business links between the Guanacaste sugar mills and the Costa Rican government. The main objective was to explain the process by which its owners –families Arias, Sánchez, Jenkins and Dobles, to cite the main–, had placed its members in central positions within the National Liberation Party and Costa Rican politics, in addition to analyzing the powerful role of media groups, business and politicians in Central America.
