Dieu et liberté: la alternativa del catolicismo liberal en el ochocientos

Dieu et liberté. The Liberal Catholic Alternatio in the Nineteenth Century. This paper is a comparative perspective about european Liberal Catholicism between the thirties and the seventies in the nineteenth century. lt includes a study of the Catholic Church evolution in this period. The paper explores six cases: on the one hand France and Belgium where that politic current became more significant than other countries; the other had Italy, England, Holland and Germany, where Liberal Catholicism were of lesser importance in spite of great names as Lord Acton. In the light of conflicts between Catholicism and Liberalism this article studies the polítical thought and activity in order to explain the mains characteristics of Liberal Catholicism during Cregory XVI and Pio IX papacy.Este artículo es un estudio comparativo sobre el catolicismo liberal europeo durante las décadas centrales del siglo XIX, previo análisis de la situación y evolución de la Iglesia católica en ese mismo periodo. Los casos que se consideran son, por un lado los de Francia y Bélgica, donde dicha corriente política tuvo mayor presencia e importancia, y por otro los de Italia, Inglaterra, Holanda y Alemania, en los que hubo católicos liberales tan significativos como Lord Acton pero donde la importancia política del catolicismo liberal fue bastante más limitada. Se trata de un estudio general, tanto de acción como de pensamiento político, cuyo propósito es alcanzar un cierto grado de síntesis sobre los rasgos del catolicismo liberal en los años de su esplendor máximo, esto es, durante los papados de Gregorio XVI y Pío IX (1830-1878)
