This article analyzes the Bolivian political party system from 1985 to 2005. Its purpose is to explore the Bolivian case from the beginning of democracy up to 2005, by studying the evolution and reconfiguration of the political party system and the impact that these transformations have in democratic governance. For this purpose, we will use electoral data, Real Number of Parties (NEP) and geographical distribution of the preferences in the elections of 2005 to outline some describing lines regarding the political process of Bolivia.
