Sospecha clínica de cáncer de pene: A propósito de un caso

Penile cancer is a rare condition that occurs in men between 50 and 70 years, it represents only 2-5% of male urogenital tumors. The global incidence it’s from 0.1 to 0.7 cases per 100,000 men. It is estimated that about 4,000 new cases are diagnosed each year around the world, representing less than 0.5% of all cancers. Its treatment consists in the resection of the primary tumor trying to preserve the largest possible length of healthy tissue and for this matter is important an early diagnosis. In this article we discuss a patient with a malignant tumor of 9 Months of evolution in the penis who was correctly diagnosed until it was infiltrating the distal 2/3 of the penis, the urologist practiced a partial penectomy removing the tumor and preserving functionality for miction with this procedure and although avoiding the possibility of distant metastases and regional lymphatic invasion. Even though the diagnosis of penile cancer is often clinically evident there are still delays in treatment due to lack of diagnostic suspicion, in the case described the treatment delayed because the patient was being treated as an infectious disease of the penis.El cáncer de pene es una patología rara que se presenta en hombres entre los 50 y 70 años que representa solamente el 2-5% de los tumores urogenitales masculinos. La incidencia global oscila entre 0,1 y 0,7 casos por 100.000 varones. Se estima que en todo el mundo se diagnostican unos 4.000 nuevos casos cada año, lo que representa menos del 0,5% de todos los canceres. Su tratamiento consiste en la resección de la tumoración primaria tratando de preservar la mayor longitud de tejido sano posible y para esto es importante un diagnóstico temprano. En este artículo hablamos de un paciente con una tumoración maligna de 9 meses de evolución en el pene quien fue diagnosticado hasta que su afección abarcaba los dos tercios distales del pene, se le realizo una penectomia parcial removiendo la tumoración y conservando funcionalidad para miccionar y evitando metástasis a distancia y la invasión linfática regional. Aun cuando el diagnóstico de cáncer de pene es obvio clínicamente en muchas ocasiones todavía hay retraso en el tratamiento por falta de sospecha diagnostica, en el caso que describimos el paciente no recibió tratamiento antes por estar siendo tratado por patología infecciosa del pene
