¿Cuál comunicación para qué democracia?

The analysis is based on a theory that concentrates on communication as the axis of intermediation between politics and democracy. It attempts to answer the questions: i) Should politics be defined as a communicative fact?, ii) Can society�s communicative system be re-stated to create new bases for political and social coexistence?, iii) Does communication have anything to do with the possibility of proposing new thinking about democracy? Finally, it describes the contribution of Latin American critical thought to the extensive debate stirred up by the following premises: i) Technical aspects are not the fundamental point in defining communication; and ii) To re-think communication, it is necessary to relate it to its cultural and social roots.Este análisis parte de una teoría que concentra su interés en la comunicación como eje de intermediación entre la política y la democracia. Se trata de dar respuestas a las interrogantes: i) ¿debe definirse la política como hecho comunicativo?, ii) ¿puede replantearse el sistema comunicativo de la sociedad, y crear nuevas bases de convivencia política y social?, iii) ¿tiene algo que ver la comunicación con la posibilidad de proponer un pensamiento nuevo sobre la democracia? Finalmente, se describe el aporte del pensamiento crítico latinoamericano al extenso debate provocado por las siguientes premisas: i) que lo fundamental en la definición de la comunicación no es la técnica; ii) para pensar la comunicación es necesario vincularla a sus raíces culturales y sociales
