As festas populares e a invenção das tradições: uma reflexão sobre as cavalhadas e a procissão do fogaréu em Goiás (1940-1980)

The current reflection on the Intangible Heritage in Brazil has made the appreciation of studies of folkloric festivities possible, considered as collective expressions of multiple forms of language both symbolic of and accountable for the construction of tradition and collective identities. In this work, inquires will be made into some of these concepts, offering a contribution to the historical reflection on the relation between the festivity and the construction of tradition by means of the analysis of two cultural manifestations from the State of Goias: The “Cavalcades” that occur during the celebration of Divine Holy Spirit in the city of Pirenopolis, and the “Torch Procession”, part of Easter Week in the city of Goias. They facilitate the analysis of a process which identifies ideas, institutions and projects, whose objectives were the construction of cultural references that could associate Goias to a set of cultural, folkloric and atavistic practices, creating in this way a field of meanings capable of expressing the solidity of tradition.A reflexão atual sobre o Patrimônio Imaterial no Brasil tem possibilitado a (re)valorização dos estudos sobre as festas populares, consideradas como expressões de múltiplas linguagens simbólicas e responsáveis pela construção de tradições e identidades coletivas. Neste trabalho, pretendemos problematizar algumas dessas concepções, apresentando uma contribuição à reflexão histórica sobre a relação das festas e a construção de tradições, por meio da análise de duas manifestações culturais de Goiás: As Cavalhadas que ocorrem durante a festa do Divino Espírito Santo, em Pirenópolis; e a Procissão do Fogaréu, parte da Semana Santa na cidade de Goiás. Elas possibilitam a análise de um processo no qual se encontram ideias, instituições e projetos, cujos objetivos eram a construção de referências culturais que pudessem associar Goiás a um conjunto de práticas culturais, populares e atávicas, criando, com isso, um campo de significações capaz de expressar a solidez das tradições
