AIMS: To investigate factors associated with metabolic syndrome in adult patients seen in an outpatient nutrition clinic. METHODS: A cross-sectional study included patients with 18-59 years of age, of both sexes, referred for care at the Outpatient Nutrition Department of the Health Secretary of the City of Portão, Rio Grande do Sul state. Sociodemographic and behavioral data were collected through structured, standardized, pre-coded questionnaires. Anthropometric measurements were performed to assess nutritional status and abdominal obesity.
