Reproducción sexual e influencia de sustratos en el desarrollo de Malpighia glabra L . (Malpighiaceae)

Malpighia glabra, also known as "acerola" or "semeruco" within its wide distributional range, produces fruits that have high vitamin C content in their mature state. The objective of this study was to reproduce this species by planting seeds in germination trays using the following substrates: commercial peat moss, andosol, and vertisol. The percentage of germination was calculated, the number of germinated seeds per tray cavity in each substrate was quantified, and growth from emergence of the hypocotyl to the seedling was measured. The results showed heterogeneous germination percentages between substrates. The analysis of variance presented significant differences, showing the commercial substrate to be the best for germination and vertisol to yield the highest growth rate. We can conclude that "acerola" has the capacity to germinate in any of these three substrates; nevertheless, the best results are obtained using a commercial substrate.Malpighia glabra, también conocida como acerola o semeruco dentro de su amplia distribución produce frutos que cuando alcanzan el estado de madurez son muy ricos en vitamina C. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo el reproducir esta especie mediante la siembra de semillas en charolas germinadoras bajo condiciones de vivero y utilizando tres tipos de sustratos comerciales "peat moss", andosol y vertisol. Se registró el porcentaje de germinación, se cuantificó el número de semillas germinadas por cavidad en las charolas por sustrato, y se midió el crecimiento, a partir de la emergencia del hipocótilo hasta plántula. Los resultados mostraron una heterogeneidad en los porcentajes de germinación entre sustratos. El análisis de varianza mostró diferencias significativas, siendo el sustrato comercial el mejor para la germinación; la mayor tasa de crecimiento se presentó con el sustrato vertisol. Podemos concluir que la acerola tiene la capacidad de germinar en cualquiera de los tres sustratos, sin embargo, el sustrato comercial es donde se obtienen mejores resultados
