This article emphasizes the role of linguistic interaction, in peer-peer andpeer-adult dialogue, in the construction of grammatical knowledge. Specifically, the study is part of an empirical research that explores the understanding of three uses of the present tense (habitual, timeless and retrospective) by a group of students in their 3rd and 6th year of Primary Education in Catalonia. This research examines the obstacles that make it difficult for students to recognize these usages, and the strategies they use to overcome them.
