In recent years much progress has been made in protecting human rights in Latin America. In the case of Mexico, a constitutional reform in 2011 allowed international treaties on the subject to become part of the Mexican constitutional corpus. However, these advances have been used by some international organizations to promote their own particular agendas, using their credentials and the lack of knowledge of international law to pressure national authorities with statements that distort the content of treaties or pretend to give binding force to documents that do not have such force.
