Los de abajo and Mala yerba, by Mariano Azuela and El águila y la serpiente and La sombra del Caudillo, by Martín Luís Guzmán were the first mexican novels to be translated. Until today the history of those translations has not been written in spite of its importance to learn about the spreading of mexican literature in linguistic domains other than Spanish. With the aim of helping to bridge this gap, this article tells the story of the Dutch edition of La sombra del Caudillo.
