¿Mala mujer?: el sexismo en la definición lexicográfica

This article analyses the problem of sexism in the lexical definitions in dictionaries, in six Romance languages. The objects of our analysis are the dictionary entries for ‘man’ and ‘woman’ in six languages, more exactly Sp. hombre-mujer; Fr. homme-femme; Port. homem-mulher; It. uomo-donna; Cat. home-dona, Rom. bărbat-femeie. According to previous studies, “the lexicographer’s sexist attitude” has been identified as the cause of the inequality of the lexical definitions for ‘man’ and ‘woman’ in Spanish. By extending the research to the latest edition of the dictionary edited by the Royal Spanish Academy, as well as the most representative dictionaries of the six Romance languages, we argue that sexism in lexicographic definitions does not reflect the sexist attitude of the lexicographer, but the actual social attitude. Moreover, we also analyse the different structures of the two notions, in spite of the close relation shared by the languages in question.Este trabajo se propone analizar el problema del sexismo en la definición lexicográfica en seis lenguas romances. Hemos elegido como objeto de estudio las entradas que remiten al ‘hombre’ y a la ‘mujer’ en cada uno de estos idiomas: esp. hombre-mujer; fr. homme-femme; port. homem-mulher; it. uomo-donna; cat. home-dona, rum. bărbat-femeie. El punto de partida lo han constituido las investigaciones hechas sobre la desigualdad presente en la definición lexicográfica en español, atribuida a una ‘óptica de varón del lexicógrafo’. En este trabajo hemos extendido la investigación a la última edición del diccionario académico español y a otros diccionarios representativos de los demás idiomas románicos. Nuestra hipótesis, al contrario de lo expresado en los artículos que nos han servido de punto de partida, es que no se trata de actitud sexista por parte del lexicógrafo, sino que es la propia lengua quien es sexista porque refleja la actitud de la sociedad. Además, nos interesa averiguar las posibles estructuraciones diferentes de las dos nociones a pesar del estrecho parentesco entre las lenguas en cuestión
