In this paper, we shall analyse the image of Portugal that the Spanish writer Ramón Gómez de la Serna presents in three narratives: the novel La quinta de Palmyra (1923-1925) and the short-stories “El inencontrable” (1925) and “El cólera azul” (1932, 1937). The choice of Lisbon as the setting for these stories and the description of Portuguese characters and environments bring about a specific portrait of Portugal and of Portuguese national identity combining bucolic and arcadian elements with the colonial reality and the promise of overseas horizons.
