The article begins with an analysis of the two paths that were open to Andean integration in the middle of the nineties: to strengthen the actual integration or to convert the manner in which the first position gained a greater foothold in the Latin American context. Furthermore, several pending duties in the integration process and the structural difficulties are analysed in a comparativechart that establishes the differences between the integration process in Europe and the Andean Community in order to show that the latter cannot be a mechanical replica of the European integration.
