This paper will provide a detailed geographic analysis of the reach of yeísmo in a number of Latin American republics (Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela and Paraguay), and in the southern U.S. states, using information provided by the Atlas Lingüísticos published up to 2014, in order to present an overview of the extent and development of this phonetic phenomenon in the Spanish spoken in America.
