In this investigation we studied the level of reading comprehension of a text on heat and its spread by secondary school students. We designed a test that includes two tasks in which students had to: elaborate a graphic organizer and write the main idea. In the first task, we evaluated how the reader represents the ideas of the text and the relations that he makes related to the textual superstructure. By means of the main idea we examined if the reader can identify the macrostructure. The results indicate that the difficulties go beyond the lexical, internal structure and textual superstructure fields to move to a strategic level where the students´ main difficulties are selecting, relating, reformulating and summarizing to get a coherent ...
