The aim of this article is to analyze the anthropological, historical and sociological investigations carried out on international female labor migration. These studies, from Asia, Europe, India, Africa and the United States, employ diverse methodologies including ethnography, surveys, interviews, life histories and censuses. We argue that many studies overlook the role of women in international migration and fail to consider the motivations and factors that drive women to migrate.
