In this article, Inca Garcilaso is presented as an actor in the history of translation in Peru during the 16th century. Garcilaso's work is characterized by a continuous search of harmony, taking as a starting point his bilingualism Quechua-Spanish, his knowledge of other languages such as Italian and Latin, and his vast humanistic education. While Inca's initial translations showed the beauty of what he read in other languages, his later work became more systematic and reflective. He translates verse with the fluency of a poet, and analyzes and comments on many Quechua word translations.
