La elección de 2010 en Chile. Una aproximación desde la cultura política

The Chilean presidential election on 2010 was characterized by a change of the party in government and the ideological shift to the right. The arrival of a right-wing party to power, for the first time since the transition, ended almost 20 years of concertationist government. The present paper accounts for such important changes, and even though there are many ex- planations to this single event, the main purpose is to make an approach to the Chilean 2010 election from a political culture perspective. The paper takes into account the evaluative and affective orientations that Chilean society maintains toward democracy and its institutions as the main elements that explain the vote in 2010 elections. Therefore, we think that the fatigue from the political parties, the mistrust toward them and the weak linkage between them and society have changed the traditional schemes of vote that used to give preference to parties and ideologies, to a type of voting that puts more attention on personal characteristics of the candidates and a voting that represents a non-ideological decisionLa elección presidencial chilena de 2010 se caracterizó por la alternancia partidista e ideológica que puso fin a 20 años de gobierno concertacionista y que significó la llegada de un partido de derecha al poder por primera vez desde la transición. La trascendencia de este suceso no debe escapar al análisis de los fenómenos políticos contemporáneos, de ahí la necesidad de ofrecer explicaciones que nos ayuden a comprender las razones que le preceden. Si bien los argumentos pueden ser muchos y darse desde diferentes perspectivas, el propósito del presente trabajo es explicar el comportamiento electoral chileno desde el enfoque de la cultura política. Para ello se consideran las orientaciones evaluativas y afectivas que la sociedad chilena mantiene hacia la democracia y sus instituciones como los elementos explicativos del voto en las elecciones de 2010. En este sentido, se cree que elementos como el hartazgo a los partidos, la creciente des- confianza hacia ellos y la debilitación del vínculo con la sociedad han modificado los esquemas tradicionales del voto partidista e ideológico en Chile por un voto desviado y personalist
