Balanço e perspectivas da lexicografia

The purpose of this lecture is to demonstrate the evolution of lexicography from the practical task of compiling dictionaries to their theoretical approach as reference works. The first issue to be discussed is the status of the discipline itself, since there are lexicographers, like Atkins; Rundell (2008), that deny the existence of a lexicographic theory. Secondly, and accepting that a lexicographical theory does exist, we present the main advances in the area, such as the research on dictionary classification, the criteria used to calculate the number of headwords in a dictionary (macrostructure), the set of comments that appear in each entry (microstructure) and the system of cross-references (middlestructure). Finally, the lecture will offer a reflection on the normativity in dictionaries.http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/2175-7968.2013v2n32p15 O objetivo do presente artigo é demonstrar como tem evoluído a lexicografia, de uma atividade eminentemente prática a uma reflexão teórica sobre o dicionário. A primeira questão a ser discutida é o status da própria disciplina, se se considera, por exemplo, que há lexicógrafos, tais como Atkins; Rundell (2008), que negam a existência de uma teoria lexicográfica. Em segundo lugar, e assumindo que há – e há – uma reflexão teórica sobre o dicionário, serão apresentados os principais avanços na área, a partir da árdua discussão em torno da classificação de dicionários, passando pelos critérios para estabelecer o universo léxico que constitui a listagem dos dicionários (macroestrutura), o conjunto de informações que se oferece em cada verbete (microestrutura), o sistema de remissões (medioestrutura) e, finalmente, o estado em que se encontra a discussão sobre os componentes externos do dicionário
