En la orilla izquierda del Sena

Since the middle of 1980’s until the end of 1990 in Cuba takes place an upsurge of works of social literature focusing in the shortage of products faced by Cubans in that period and questioning the canons and paradigms established in the country after 1959. With the decline of this boom the source of inspiration is found beyond the Island by many authors, among them the controversial Ena Lucia Portela. This is particularly evident in her novel Djuna y Daniel , set in the Bohemian and intellectual Paris of 1920 -­‐ 1940, in which various features of Portela’s literary aesthetic – transgression, “rare” characters, erudition, homoeroticism, irony, exclusion – are shown. The novel deals with a period of the life of the American writer Djuna Barnes and the Bohemian and intellectual entourage of the Quartier Latin in Paris.Desde mediados de la década de 1980 y hasta finales de la de 1990 se da en Cuba un auge de una literatura social centrada en las carencias del cubano de la época y que subvierte los cánones y paradigmas establecidos en la Cuba post 59. Cuando el boom de esta literatura decae muchos escritores deciden mirar más allá de la isla, entre ellos la polémica Ena Lucía Portela. Su novela Djuna y Daniel, situada en el París bohemio e intelectual de 1920 a 1940, es un buen ejemplo, además de hacer evidente varias de las características de la estética literaria de Portela: la transgresión, los personajes “raros”, la erudición, el homoerotismo, la ironía, lo marginal, etcétera. La novela se centra en un periodo de la vida de la escritora norteamericana Djuna Barnes y en la intelectualidad bohemia del Barrio Latino de París
