This article aims to present two of the most important trends of the Brazilian labor market during the final decades of the last century: the loss of industrial space in the generation of jobs and the deregulation of labor relations. The eighties and the end of the growth strategy driven by public investment in the industry mark important changes in the occupational structure of the labor force and the industry was not able to generate formal jobs in the same speed of the expansion of urban labor supply. At the same time, we observe a intense growth of the informal sector and the atypical relation jobs.
