Temas y Problemas en la pintura colonial neogranadina

The development of painting in colonial Hispanic America had significant differences from region to region. What was painted was the result of the very particular cultural experiences and social conditions of each society. Throughan overview of the most representative visual themes in the New Kingdom of Granada (Colombia), this article pretends to show the particular set of values rooted on that society and, at the same time, tries to highlight the image’srole as a mechanism to spread discourses that could guide the colonial practices.El desarrollo de la pintura en América colonial tuvo diferencias significativas en las distintas regiones. Lo que se pintó fue el resultado particular de las experiencias culturales y de las condiciones sociales de cada sociedad. El artículo ofrece un panorama sobre los temas visuales más representativos en el Nuevo Reino de Granada, actual Colombia, a través del cual se puede observar un sistema particular de valores. Se busca destacar cuál era la función de la imagen colonial como mecanismo para trasmitir discursos que orientaran las prácticas
