This article analyses the impact of increasing and complex violence against women, asking whether urban violence is inherent to urban society and culture. Violence against women happens in the private as well as in the public sphere, and is limiting their rights and citizenship, as well as working as a continuous and constant power expression on women�s bodies. This article is based on the premise that public violence is different when exerted against men or women, and additionally, that it is not being perceived as similar.
