La modernidad interrumpida: La arquitectura española de la postguerra

As "A symbol of a great sector of the political Spanish life, it finds his correspondence in the architecture and the forms of that monastery (�) It orientates and presides at many of the most important and better projected buildings that lately have been done", Juan de Zavala was characterizing the Ministry of the Air, built in Moncloa's area in Madrid, and also, the constructions that were defining the famous Imperial Cornice of the Manzanares, paradigmatic project of Franco's regime. While that happened, what was happening with the uses and receipt of contemporary architecture? It is undeniable that during the Republic, we had reached important milestones in this receipt, but also it is undoubted that, for many questions, the Franco's regime was not going to share these uses. This article proposes to characterize this process of receipt as well as to clarify and to penetrate into the aforesaid questions, in a way that we could speak about interrupted modernity, when we refer to Spanish architecture up to 1939.Como �Símbolo de un gran sector de la vida política española, halla su correspondencia en la arquitectura y las formas de aquel monasterio (�) Orientan y presiden muchas de las más importantes y mejor proyectadas edificaciones que últimamente se han hecho� caracterizaba en 1954 Juan de Zavala el Ministerio del Aire, construido en la zona de Moncloa en Madrid, y por extension, las construcciones que estaban definiendo la famosa Cornisa Imperial del Manzanares, proyecto paradigmático de la arquitectura del franquismo. Mientras eso ocurría ¿que estaba pasando con los usos y recepción de la arquitectura contemporánea? Es innegable que durante la República se habían alcanzado hitos importantes en esa recepción, pero también es indudable que, por muchas cuestiones, el franquismo no iba a compartir esos usos. Este artículo se propone caracterizar ese proceso de recepción así como aclarar y profundizar en las cuestiones antedichas que hicieron que se pueda hablar de modernidad interrumpida, al referirnos a la arquitectura española a partir de 1939
