In this paper I deal with the evolution of an economic institution - the Guild of Butchers in Seville - between the time of the conquest of the city by the Christians in 1248 and the beginning of the 16th century. As I will try to show, this corporation controlled a very considerable amount of property and it also controlled the income and profits generated by the meat trade.
