Las paradojas del movimiento zapatista en la construcción de paz

The present work is a summary of the principal ideas from the research paper of the same title that the author presented in 2009 to obtain the Advanced Studies Diploma in Peace Conflicts and Democracy from the Institute of Peace and Conflicts of the University of Granada. The Zapatista Army of National Liberation (Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, EZLN) announced its intentions the Mexican society and the international community on 1 January 1994, when it declared war on the Mexican Government and army, with the taking of four important towns and cities in the southern state of Chiapas and the ensuing spread of the armed conflict to other municipalities in the area. The bloodiest fighting took place in the city of Ocosingo. The insurgent group subsequently went underground for more than a decade. The present essay reflects on the Zapatista movement and its peace construction process, paying special attention to paradoxes faced its historical conduct, since to the extent that these are overcome, both the EZNL and Mexican society as a whole will have moved forward along the path towards longed for peace.Este ensayo es un compendio de las principales ideas que recoge el trabajo de investigación con el mismo título que presenté en el 2009 para obtener el Diploma de Estudios Avanzados (DEA) en Paz, Conflictos y Democracia por el Instituto de la Paz y los Conflictos de la Universidad de Granada. El Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) salió a la luz pública el 1º de enero de 1994, con una declaración de guerra al Gobierno mexicano y la toma de cuatro importantes cabeceras municipales en el estado sureño de Chiapas, con la consiguiente extensión del conflicto a otros municipios de la entidad federativa y la intervención del Ejército. Los enfrentamientos más sangrientos tuvieron lugar en la ciudad de Ocosingo. El grupo insurgente contaba entonces más de una década de vida en la clandestinidad. En esta investigación se estudia al movimiento zapatista de México y su proceso de construcción de paz, con una especial atención a las paradojas que enfrenta en su proceder histórico, ya que a medida que estas sean superadas, tanto el EZLN como la sociedad mexicana en su conjunto habrán avanzado en el camino hacia su tan anhelada paz
