Geomorfología, inundaciones y alteración antrópica del espacio inundable: el caso del riu Girona (Alacant, octubre de 2007)

This paper discusses the floods occurred between 11 and 12 October, 2007 in the lower basin of the Riu Girona, Alacant. The aim of this work is to define the geometry of the flooded area and the processes of flooding, according to two fundamental factors: the topography and recent changes that have occurred on the floodplain. To explain the flood dynamics, the morphology of the terrain was classified into concave shapes (where the waters converge) and convex (which are safe from flooding). In the first category are the tectonic depressions and paleochannels, while the second group includes sedimentary accumulations (alluvial fans) and positive structural relief elements. With respect to changes in the flooded area, special emphasis was placed on analyzing the recent changes in the floodplain and the river channel including urbanization, roads, pipelines and vegetation.Este artículo analiza las inundaciones acaecidas entre el 11 y el 12 de octubre de 2007 en la cuenca baja del Riu Girona. El objetivo del trabajo consiste en explicar la geometría del área inundada y los procesos de inundación, atendiendo a dos factores fundamentales: la topografía y los cambios recientes producidos en el espacio inundable. Para explicar la dinámica de las inundaciones, la morfología del terreno, se puede clasificar en formas cóncavas (donde se concentran las aguas desbordadas) y convexas (que quedan a salvo de la inundación). A la primera categoría pertenecen las depresiones tectónicas y los paleocauces, mientras que en el segundo grupo se encuentran las acumulaciones sedimentarias (abanicos aluviales) y cualquier relieve positivo de tipo estructural. Por lo que respecta a los cambios del área inundada, se pone especial atención en analizar los cambios recientes del espacio inundable y del cauce: urbanización, vías de comunicación, canalizaciones, vegetación del lecho, etc
