Inflamabilidad de especies vegetales del ecosistema de pinares

Fires have been recognized as one of the main causes of the loss of forests, terrestrial ecosystems of great importance not only for men but also for other living things that depend on them for their livelihoods. Precisely fuels are one of the elements of both the combustion triangle as the spread, so study their characteristics is of great importance, one being flammability. In Cuba they do not exist until now studies flammability of plant species, which could contribute to the improvement of the basic activities of fire management, as they provide the ability to define areas with different risk, which may vary for some species, for the year.In correspondence with the above, the overall objective of this study was to evaluate the annual distribution of the flammability of some plant species of pine ecosystem. The samples were collected in the 18 km road to Viñales every month during the period November 2010 to October 2011 between 10:15 and at11: 15 hours. The method described by Elvira and Hernando (1989) and Hernando (2000 and 2009) was used for determining the flammability of fuels. Among other results may be mentioned that the average times lower inflammation was obtained correspond to the period from November to February, being the species with the lowest average value for this variable during the Clidemia hirta. The higher average value was obtained for the case of Rondeletia correifolia.Los incendios han sido reconocidos como una de las principales causas que provocan la pérdida de los bosques, ecosistemas terrestres de gran importancia, no solo para el hombre sino también para otros seres vivos que dependen de ellos para su subsistencia. Precisamente son los combustibles uno de los elementos que integran tanto el triángulo de la combustión como el de la propagación, por esto estudiar sus características es de gran importancia, siendo una de ellas la inflamabilidad. En Cuba no existen hasta la actualidad estudios sobre inflamabilidad de especies vegetales, los cuales podrían contribuir al perfeccionamiento de las actividades básicas de manejo del fuego, pues brindan la posibilidad de definir zonas con diferente riesgo, lo que puede variar, para algunas especies, durante el año. En correspondencia con lo anterior el objetivo general de este trabajo fue evaluar la distribución anual de la inflamabilidad de algunas especies vegetales del ecosistema de pinares. Las muestras fueron colectadas todos los meses durante el periodo noviembre 2010–octubre 2011 entre las 10:15 y las 11:15 horas. Para la determinación del grado de inflamabilidad de los combustibles, se utilizó el método descrito por Elvira y Hernando (1989) y Hernando (2000 y 2009). Entre otros resultados puede mencionarse que los menores tiempos de inflamación promedio que se obtuvieron se corresponden con el período noviembre–febrero, siendo la especie con menor valor promedio para esta variable durante el año la Clidemia hirta. El mayor valor promedio se obtuvo para el caso de la Rondeletia correifolia
