This article presents the preliminary results of research to establish the cause-effect relationship between high ametropias and visual perceptual skills measures with the Test of Visual Perceptual Skills (TVPS). The proper processing of information depends on the establishment of synaptic connections from the retina to the primary visual cortex, secondary and tertiary levels. In turn, the smooth development of the tertiary area depends of secondary area and this last, of the primary area. These three areas are part of what Luria (1984) established as the second functional unit, which is directly related to the development of visual perceptual skills.
