Misticismo y maravillosismo a través del imaginario de José Montesinos y su Compendio Histórico Oriolano

The mysticism was very important in the history of religiosity during the Modern Age. In Spain it reached its pinnacle in the XVI century, but that great prominence would decrease during the second part of the XVII century until its dissolution. In fact, eighteenth-century mysticism was different to the phenomenon which had challenged the orthodoxy in the past. However, its existence will still be perceptible at the end of the Modern Age, showing the inner religious workings of a society organised around the public ritual. In this study, we are going to understand this late mysticism through José Montesinos Pérez Martínez de Orumbella's eyes (1745-1828), expressed through the biographical stories of his handwritten work entitled Compendio histórico oriolano.La mística jugó un papel importante en la historia de la religiosidad durante la Edad Moderna. En España alcanzó sus cotas más altas durante el siglo XVI, templándose a partir de la segunda mitad del XVII hasta casi diluirse en la centuria siguiente. En efecto, la mística setecentista poco tenía que ver con el fenómeno que mantuvo en vilo a los guardianes de la ortodoxia siglos atrás. Aun así, su huella todavía sería perceptible en las postrimerías de la modernidad, revelando la interioridad y subjetividad religiosa de una sociedad articulada en torno al ritual público. La razón de este trabajo es acercarnos a esa mística tardía a través del imaginario del polígrafo José Montesinos (1745-1828), plasmado en los relatos biográficos de su obra Compendio histórico oriolano
