In classical information retrieval models, documents are represented by a set of terms or keywords. A disadvantage of this representation is that the query results are limited only to the frequency of occurrence of terms. No considers the meaning of terms and semantic relationships that may exist between the documents. One alternative to solve this problem is using Semantic Web technologies in order to assign data a well defined meaning. This article describes a proposal to extend the information retrieval process using Semantic Web technologies.
