Antes de Cadmo: influencias artísticas y transferencias iconográficas entre Creta y Egipto durante la época del Minoico Medio I y II

This article reviews the evidence concerning the artistic influences between ancient Egypt and Middle Bronze Age Crete, analysing the process of transference of ideas, symbols and iconografic elements from one area to another. This study focuses on the finding of a clay sistrum in Archanes (Crete), which is a clear imitation of the Egyptian instrument. In Egypt sistra are not only common musical Instruments but also objects with an important religious and symbolic meaning, associated with the goddess Hathor. Throughout these pages I have tried to analyse the meaning of the sistrum in Crete, starting from other examples of sistra representations and their correspondence with Aegean music and dance. Probably, the symbolism of the sistrum in Crete was not the same as in Egypt, but this instrument must have retained its religious aspect, being used in some kind of Minoan ritual ceremony, such as the one represented in the «Harvesters Vase». The difussion of the Egyptian sistrum is an outstanding example of the mutual and profitable influences which took place between the Orient and the West in the Bronze Age.Este artículo revisa la evidencia referente a las influencias artísticas entre el antiguo Egipto y la Creta de la época del Bronce Medio, analizando el proceso mediante el cual se produce la transferencia de ideas, símbolos y elementos iconográficos desde un ámbito a otro. Este estudio se centra en el hallazgo de un sistro de arcilla en Archanes (Creta), que es una clara imitación del instrumento egipcio. En Egipto los sistros no son sólo instrumentos musicales comunes sino también objetos con un importante significado religioso y simbólico asociados con la diosa Hathor. A lo largo de estas páginas hemos intentado analizar el significado del sistro en Creta a partir de otros ejemplos de representaciones de sistros, y su vinculación con la música y la danza en el Egeo. Probablemente el simbolismo del sistro en Creta no es idéntico al que tenía en Egipto, pero sí debió mantener su aspecto ritual, utilizándose en algún tipo de ceremonia religiosa cretense como la representada en el «vaso de los cosechadores». La difusión del sistro egipcio es un claro ejemplo de las beneficiosas influencias mutuas que se produjeron entre Oriente y Occidente en la Edad del Bronce
