El comportamiento social en las cajas de ahorros españolas durante la crisis

The sector of Savings Banks in Spain has disappeared as a result of the economic crisis, emerging doubts about the steps taken and increasing regulation of the financial world to avoid repetition of this phenomenon. This article attempts to deepen the social behavior during the crisis, trying to relate social management with the survival of the boxes transformed into banks , trying to check if administrators who have made socially responsible management. The analysis considered, for all existing Savings Banks in the period under review, 26 variables (economic-financial, social behavior and corporate governance) and data have been selected periods 2005-06 financial years of generation and distribution of surplus before the economic crisis; and 2009-2010, the last year before the corporate sector concentration operations would end up blurring the industry and transforming the financial affairs of the Savings Banks. The results obtained through a set of statistical techniques confirm that savings banks better managed during the crisis have been socially responsible increasing the percentage of resources devoted to welfare projects and directing them to the socio-health and welfare activity, needing minor public aid for survive, becoming Banks.El sector de las Cajas de Ahorros en España ha desaparecido como consecuencia de la crisis económica, surgiendo dudas sobre la gestión realizada y aumentando la regulación sobre el mundo financiero para evitar repeticiones de este fenómeno. En este artículo se profundiza en el comportamiento social durante la crisis, tratando de relacionar la gestión de la Obra Social con la supervivencia de las Cajas trasformadas, pretendiendo verificar si los administradores han realizado una gestión socialmente responsable. En el análisis, sobre el conjunto de Cajas de Ahorros existentes, se han considerado 26 variables de comportamiento social, económico-financieras y de gobierno corporativo. El estudio se ha realizado en dos periodos: 2005-06, últimos ejercicios de generación y distribución de excedentes antes de la crisis económica, y 2009-2010, último ejercicio antes de las operaciones corporativas de concentración sectorial (por las que se transforma el negocio). Los resultados obtenidos, mediante un conjunto de técnicas estadísticas, confirman que las Cajas de Ahorros mejor gestionadas durante la crisis han sido socialmente responsables aumentando el porcentaje de recursos destinado OBS y orientándolos más a la asistencia social y sanitaria, siendo además las que han necesitado de menores ayudas públicas para sobrevivir y transformarse
