This research aims to understand the principal dimensions underlying the initial training of teachers in Childhood Education. Previous researches on the formation of teachers indicate that the competences and the basic beliefs are the main aspects for the development of the educational role in this stage. Using a mixed methodology that integrates quantitative and qualitative methods, has been found that the competences identified as most important in the training of teachers are communicative and emotional, also having importance the beliefs of respect for diversity and recognition of human value.
