This article intends to present some contemporary understandings of power, based on the analysis of two authors of the twentieth century, Hannah Arendt and Michel Foucault , who were focused on important issues of society. It points different understandings, from the conceptual basis that support the research of those philosophers. While for Arendt , power has a positive assessment in itself , although it may suffer destruction when there is violence as a result of the actions of individuals, and thus destroys, Foucault thinks from a power perspective, which the role of the individual is almost nonexistent; power has not being situated anywhere and functioning as a kind of connection between individuals and institutions.
