In order to solve a problem or reverse a trend, the researcher must first identify the problem, and then suggest solutions or resolutions for that problem so as to offer hope for the future. From all indications, African American students are lagging behind in college education. Of those who do come to college, a troubling percentage do not persevere to graduation. Among those most at risk for failure to succeed in college are African American males. On the average, Black males in America appear to be in deep trouble: For example, many more college aged Black men are in prison than are enrolled in higher education.
