In this text, we study the evolution of the border between the mapuche territory and its neighbors, from Spanish colonial times to the current period. According to our hypothesis, relations between the Chilean state and the mapuche people manifest a double movement: on one hand, a neo-colonization based on a powerful legal system imposing certain types of institutions and territoriality to the mapuche, and on the other hand, the various forms of resistance displayed by them.
