This study analyzes information derived from a qualitative empirical research with secondary school teachers; this discusses the role of the speech of teachers, education authorities and other school personnel, in structuring possible fields of action in shaping cognitive functions, identities and practices of students. To achieve some answers (possible), we rely on the theoretical-critical language in school and those approaches that emphasize the creation of social identities in context of situated activity. The analysis suggests that semiotic mediation, understood beyond the constructivist view of learning awareness and leads to the formation of collective acts of meaning whose main input is the language (in use).
