Nowadays is growing the illusion, or hope, that death can be controlled, postponed or defeated. This way of thinking was assimilated by the healthcare professionals. Aims: Understand how the healthcare professionals deal with the assistance to the patient with advanced or terminal disease, as well as knowing the personal resources used to do so. Materials and methods: The healthcare professionals (N=147). It was used an inquiry of social-demographical and professional characterization and the Inventory of Personal Resources and Answers (BPS/IRRP, Copyright, Automated Assessment; translated to Portuguese language and validated by McIntyre & Silvério, 1995).
