Small and medium international enterprises (SMEs) can be either classified as traditionally international or as enterprises with accelerated internationalization processes known as "Born Globals." Regardless of an important variety of research on the subject, the existence of differences between the formal organization of a Born Global enterprise and a traditional international enterprise has not been established. Using a case study methodology, this article compares the formal structures of two traditional international SMEs from the tourist and food industries, and two born global enterprises from the same industries.
