Abuso sexual en la niñez

Sexual abuse in childhood is presented in two main ways: sexual abuse within the family, also known as incest, and sexual exploitation of chil-dren and adolescents, known as trafficking for sexual purposes. Both forms affect millions of children worldwide. The aim of this article is to give an overview about the sexual abuse that happens in families. This article reviews some concepts about the abuse, its main manifestations and the impact in short and long term. It also presents three models of psychological abuse, one focused on individual attention, the second in the family and the third, an integrative model that seeks to encompass the individual, family and social sphere. The text is intended to assist in the awareness of a phenomenon of great impact on the national level, emphasizing the responsibility of adults, professionals and non-professionals who intervene to prevent abuse.El abuso sexual en la niñez se presenta en dos grandes modalidades: el abuso sexual familiar (también conocido como incesto), y la explotación sexual comercial de niños/as y adolescentes (conocida como trata de personas con fines sexuales). Ambas modalidades afectan a millones de niños/as en todo el mundo. El objetivo de este artículo es ofrecer una panorámica en torno al abuso sexual que ocurre al interior de las fami-lias. Para ello se revisan algunos conceptos en torno al abuso, sus princi-pales manifestaciones, así como sus consecuencias a corto y largo plazo. Se presentan también tres modelos de atención psicológica del abuso; uno centrado en la atención individual, otro en la familiar; y el tercero es un modelo integrador, que se propone abarcar el ámbito individual, fa-miliar y social. La intención del texto es coadyuvar en la sensibilización hacia un fenómeno de gran incidencia en el ámbito nacional, y enfatizar en la responsabilidad de los adultos (profesionales o no) de intervenir para prevenir el abuso
