Agenda setting en medios ecuatorianos. Diarios: El Universo, El Mercurio, El Comercio y El Telégrafo

Using the agenda setting as a fundamental basis, this study aims to: a) examine the philosophy of four major newspapers in Ecuador (El Universo, El Telégrafo, El Comercio and El Mercurio); and b) to analyze the daily writing of journalistic themes. Methods: In this study, we analyze newspaper content during the period from 16th April to 18th May, 2012, by using a research grid consisting of nine separate sections. Results: The main public sources of information are highlighted in this article. The daily production methods used in mass media resulted in being favorable to investigative journalism. Conversely, short news items tended to occupy more space in the four newspapers that were the subject of this study. Discussion: The lack of investigative journalism is a pervasive issue in many case studies in this field. Journalists often prefer to carry out their daily activities with the help of public organizations or entities where it is easier to find newsworthy events. Conclusions: Many different forms of mass media are being monitored today to determine their importance in providing journalism. Information agencies usually carry out their work by meeting the needs of special interests.Introducción. Tomando como base fundamental los conceptos de la agenda setting el estudio busca conocer la línea que siguen los cuatro medios de comunicación de Ecuador (El Universo, El Telégrafo, El Comercio y El Mercurio) para el establecimiento cotidiano de sus temarios periodísticos. Metodología. Se trabajó con el análisis de contenido a través de una semana compuesta entre el 16 de abril al 18 de mayo de 2012, usando como instrumento una ficha de investigación que comprende nueve apartados. Resultados. Se destacan las entidades públicas como los principales motores de la información; las rutinas productivas cotidianas de los medios resultan favorecedoras frente al periodismo de investigación; y las noticias breves tienen mayor número de publicaciones en dichos periódicos objeto de estudio. Discusión. La falta de periodismo de investigación es notoria en los casos de estudio. Los periodistas prefieren hacer rutinas cotidianas en especial con organismos o entidades públicas en donde permanentemente encuentran hechos noticiosos. Conclusiones. Los medios de comunicación están constantemente monitoreados para conocer la importancia que le brindan a la labor periodística.
