Obesity is frequently related to alterations in fasting glycemia, type II diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia. This cluster is called "metabolic syndrome" and its etiology includes genetic factors and lifestyles. Metabolic syndrome threatens to become a public health issue affecting all social levels. Decreasing the cut off point at 100 mg % for the definition of alteration in fasting glycemia is under discussion. In the city of Rosario no updated figures on these risk factors have been found.
